Paris is renowned for its iconic landmarks and world-class museums. However, beyond the traditional sightseeing attractions, there is a wealth of experiences waiting to be discovered in the city of light! Here’s some of the best non-sightseeing activities that will add a touch of magic to your visit to one of my favourite cities in the world!
Speakeasy Adventures
Step into the glamorous world of Parisian speakeasies, hidden behind unmarked doors and secret entrances. Discover the allure of Moonshiner Paris, a hidden speakeasy nestled in the heart of the city. Drawing inspiration from the Prohibition era, this clandestine establishment offers a glimpse into the past with dim lighting, vintage decor, and exclusive vibes. Step back in time and experience the mystique of Moonshiner Paris, a must-visit for cocktail enthusiasts and those seeking a unique night out in Paris. Another popular speakeasy to check out is Little Red Door, which is renowned for its innovative and ever-evolving cocktail menu. The talented team of mixologists constantly pushes the boundaries of mixology, surprising guests with new and unexpected flavor combinations. This speakeasy also takes pride in using seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients!
Café Culture
Paris is famous for its café culture, and there’s no better way to experience the local lifestyle than by sipping coffee at a cozy café. You can visit the legendary Café de Flore, a historic establishment in Saint-Germain-des-Prés; it is the perfect spot to people-watch and soak in the artistic atmosphere. Or visit a café that’s more off the beaten tourist path and popular with locals like Le Caféothèque. Order a café au lait, indulge in a croissant, and enjoy!
Culinary Delights
Paris is a paradise for food lovers, and exploring its vibrant culinary scene is a must. Le Comptoir du Relais, a beloved bistro in the Saint-Germain neighborhood, offers an authentic Parisian dining experience. Indulge in traditional French dishes and savor the flavors that have made French cuisine world-renowned. Or you can check out one of Paris’s many trendy concept restaurants like Kong, an Asian fusion restaurant set beneath a glass dome in a chic Philippe Starck-designed space.
Paris Photoshoot
Capture unforgettable memories with a unique photoshoot at various locations in and around Paris. Hire a professional photographer to guide you to the best vantage points and help you strike the perfect pose. Whether it’s a romantic couple shoot or a solo adventure, I’d say the stunning backdrop of the Eiffel Tower is always iconic and is a must location to shoot! Airbnb Experiences has lots of photographers who offer photoshoots at different price points but you can also do a DIY photoshoot using a tripod!
parisian Picnic
Gather your favorite French delicacies and create a memorable picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower or along the banks of the Seine River. Visit local markets like Rue Cler or Marché des Enfants Rouges to pick up fresh baguettes, cheeses, pastries, and a bottle of wine. Spread out a blanket, savor the delicious treats, and bask in the Parisian ambiance. If you feel like splurging, rent a Riva boat and have your picnic on the Seine river with the Eiffel Tower as your backdrop! Or book your picnic with Picnic Like A Parisian and just show up to a beautiful picnic in Paris at a location of your choice!
Carousel Ride at Sacré-Cœur
Embrace your inner child and take a whimsical ride on the carousel located near the magnificent Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Montmartre. Enjoy the nostalgic music, the vibrant colors, and the delightful atmosphere as you spin around on beautifully crafted wooden horses. It’s a charming experience that will bring out the joy and playfulness in you.
Unique Shopping Experiences
Paris offers a plethora of shopping opportunities beyond the mainstream avenues. Explore Le Marais, a trendy neighborhood known for its independent boutiques and vintage stores. Discover unique fashion pieces, handmade crafts, and one-of-a-kind treasures. Or visit the Kith flagship store for a one of kind experience: brunch and shop! Indulge in quintessential classics like bagels, sliced-to-order salmon, chopped salads, and pancakes at Sadelle’s (a restaurant located on the main floor of the store) and then after walk up to shop on the 2nd floor! Please note that Sadelle’s is open for walk ins only and does not accept reservations so arrive early!
Explore the Canal Saint-Martin
Escape the tourist trail and discover the charm of the Canal Saint-Martin neighbourhood. Buy a bottle of wine and take a leisurely stroll along the tree-lined banks of the canal, watch as the locks open and close for passing boats, and find a cozy café or trendy bar to enjoy a refreshing drink while watching the world go by. This vibrant and offbeat district is beloved by locals and offers a unique perspective of Paris.
Paris is a city that goes far beyond its famous landmarks. Embracing non-sightseeing activities allows you to connect with the true essence of the city, discover hidden gems, and create unforgettable memories. So, venture off the beaten path, immerse yourself in the local culture, and let Paris unveil its enchanting secrets to you. Bon voyage!
