Oia, Santorini is a dreamy, bucketlist destination that is a must visit! Last year I finally traveled to this picturesque destination, and was awed by the white-washed buildings clinging to the cliffs, expansive views of the Aegean Sea, and breathtaking sunsets. With so many hotel options available, I selected two luxurious properties that promised to provide exceptional value during my stay in Oia. Here is my firsthand experience and review of both hotels!
Hotel Review: Old Oia Castle, Oia, Santorini
Old Oia Castle was an incredible experience from start to finish. Nestled within a restored medieval fortress right on the edge of a cliff, this boutique hotel offers a unique experience with chic, contemporary decor.
One of the highlights of the hotel was the rooftop terrace and stunning infinity pool. It offered panoramic views of Oia’s whitewashed houses, blue-domed churches, and the caldera. It was an excellent spot to relax and bask in the beauty of the surroundings. Every evening I sipped champagne in the pool and watched the famous Santorini sunset. It truly provided a magical experience that will stay with me for a long time.
Old Oia Castle is conveniently situated within walking distance of the town’s main attractions, including the Oia Castle and the charming narrow streets filled with shops and restaurants. I liked that I always felt like I was in a sanctuary when I was at the hotel, but was also just steps away from in the heart of the action of Oia. The only thing that could prove to be difficult for some people is that the hotel is built into the side of a cliff. There is a long, steep stairway that you need to go up and down if you want to walk to the main streets of town. Therefore, I would not recommend this hotel for anyone with mobility issues.
The rooms at Old Oia Castle were beautifully designed, featuring a perfect blend of modern amenities and traditional aesthetics. My room was small but had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, with a comfortable bed, and elegant furnishings. My favourite part was the large private terrace outside my room, complete with loungers, a dining table, a private plunge pool, and breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea.
The service at Old Oia Castle was exceptional. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure a memorable stay. Their warm hospitality made me feel welcome and well taken care of throughout my stay.
Hotel Review: Atrina Canava, Oia Santorini
Atrina Canava was the second hotel I stayed at and it was an unforgettable experience. Atrina Canava’s location in Oia was also ideal. It was situated along the main walkway but away from the bustling crowds, allowing for a peaceful and serene atmosphere. It was within walking distance of the main attractions, shops, and restaurants in Oia, making it convenient for exploring the area. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the hotel’s charming and traditional Cycladic architecture, which seamlessly blended with the stunning natural surroundings.
The rooms at Atrina Canava are large and elegantly decorated, featuring a comfortable bed, modern amenities, a kitchenette and a spacious bathroom with luxurious toiletries. Upon arrival, a welcome bottle of wine was waiting for us on the the table inside the room, which I felt was a thoughtful touch. The best part of the room was of course was the private terrace overlooking the iconic Santorini Caldera, offering panoramic views of the Aegean Sea!
One of the highlights of my stay was the hotel’s breakfast served on the terrace, which I felt deserves a 10/10. The breakfast menu at Atrina Canava features a combination of continental and Mediterranean flavors. You can expect a variety of freshly baked bread, pastries, and croissants accompanied by a selection of locally sourced cheeses, cold cuts, and olives; freshly cut fruits and freshly squeezed juices, eggs or omelettes, pancakes and French toast, and greek yogurt accompanied by local honey, nuts, and granola. There was truly nothing better than having a large, delicious breakfast on the terrace in the morning with the incredible views of the Caldera and Aegean Sea.
The service at Atrina Canava was exceptional. The hotel prides itself on providing personalized service and attention to detail. I found that the staff members were attentive and friendly and they will ensure that your breakfast experience is tailored to your preferences and dietary needs.
My stays at Old Oia Castle and Atrina Canava were both unforgettable experiences. The combination of stunning views, impeccable service, and prime locations made for a perfect vacation and allowed me to take in the beauty and charm of Oia, Santorini. I would highly recommend both hotels to anyone seeking a memorable and luxurious stay in this picturesque destination and want good value for their money. Rooms at Old Oia Castle in early summer start from 380 USD and at Atrina Canava start at 330 USD (if you book well in advance).
