Day 2:
Morning:
Afternoon: The Rainbow Slide at Picnic Steak House
Head over to Picnic Steak House for one of El Salvador’s most famous attractions: the Rainbow Slide! This vibrant, colorful slide is not just a whimsical addition to the restaurant; it’s a delightful experience that brings out the inner child in everyone. The rainbow slide costs 5$ USD for EACH ride and make sure you bring cash! It isn’t as scary as it looks! It does get very hot up there so I recommend visiting in the morning hours! Minimum age to ride is 12! Take a thrilling ride down the slide, then relax and enjoy the lively atmosphere.
After your slide adventure, indulge in a leisurely lunch featuring a diverse menu that includes juicy steaks, fresh seafood, and local specialties. Pair your meal with refreshing drinks from their extensive beverage selection, including craft cocktails and local beers.
Nightlife:
Make a reservation for dinner at Brutto San Salvador. Brutto is a trendy and upscale restaurant in San Salvador, El Salvador, celebrated for its stylish ambiance and creative fusion of international flavors with Latin American influences. The restaurant features a sleek, modern decor with moody lighting and vibrant artwork, creating an inviting yet sophisticated atmosphere. Known for its beautifully presented dishes, Brutto’s menu offers a wide variety, from gourmet sushi to expertly crafted steak and seafood options, with inventive cocktails to match. The spot has become a go-to for food enthusiasts and social gatherings, appealing to those looking for a refined dining experience in the heart of San Salvador.
After dinner head to The Rooftop, a must-visit bar located in the trendy Santa Elena district for music, drinks and dancing! Frequently hosting DJ’s, live music, and themed events, the Rooftop promises an energetic nightlife experience. The night I went the DJ played a mix of reggaeton, afrobeats and hip-hop. The drink menu features affordable cocktails highlighting local flavors, alongside a selection of tapas.
Day 3: Hiking Santa Ana Volcano
Morning Adventure: Santa Ana Volcano
Start your day with an early hike up Santa Ana Volcano, the highest and one of the most beautiful volcanoes in El Salvador. The moderately challenging trail takes you through lush forests, and the views from the summit are breathtaking, featuring a stunning turquoise crater lake. The hike typically takes about 4-5 hours round trip, so be sure to pack plenty of water and your camera to capture the picturesque landscapes. You need to pay in cash twice- a $6 guide fee when you depart from the park office and a $3 park fee when you get to the base of the volcano. The hike is a moderate to difficult hike (do not do this if you have a heart condition or are out of shape!) Bring water & a snack or there is a spot to purchase drinks & snacks at the base of the volcano.
Stay: Casa Cerro Verde 1800
After your hike, unwind at Casa Cerro Verde 1800, a charming hotel set within a coffee plantation near Cerro Verde National Park. The hotel features beautifully appointed rooms with rustic decor, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Relax in the outdoor pool or take a leisurely stroll through the lush gardens while enjoying the fresh mountain air. The on-site restaurant serves delicious local cuisine, providing a perfect way to refuel after your hike. Tip: I recommend staying the night before at Casa Cerro Verde 1800 since the Santa Ana volcano tour leaves early at 9am! The park office is only a 2 min walk from the hotel!
Evening Relaxation
Enjoy a leisurely dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, where you can savor dishes made with locally sourced ingredients while soaking in the tranquil atmosphere.
