If you are dreaming of having a floating breakfast but can’t afford or don’t have time to take a trip to Bali or the Maldives and instead are planning a vacation to Tulum, Florida or the Caribbean then consider making your own DIY floating breakfast!
First Steps
First choose an Airbnb or hotel that comes with its own private plunge pool! Next, make your floating breakfast tray for $25 and pack it in your suitcase!
I visited Tulum, Mexico and stayed in a very affordable Airbnb in the La Velata neighbourhood. It was only $100 a night and had it’s very own private plunge pool, so it was the perfect place to test my first DIY floating breakfast!

Materials and Cost
-Pool Floatie ($2) (White color is preferable. I had to use green because it was all I could find in Canada in the winter)
-Glue ($5) (Any super glue that bonds plastic to plastic works; ask at your hardware store)
-White Tray ($18) (I ordered mine from Amazon. I suggest measuring your suitcase and looking at the dimensions of the tray before buying.)
-Box Cutter (or other sharp knife)
DIY Floating Breakfast Instructions
Cut the pool floatie in half using a box cutter and then into smaller piece that fit the length of the tray. Glue the piece onto the bottom of the tray and allow it to dry overnight. Once dry pack the tray in the bottom of your suitcase. Mine fit in perfectly in the bottom of my large suitcase. I suggest measuring your suitcase and looking at the dimensions of the tray before you buy it. Alternately you can pack the tray and floatie pieces in your suitcase and glue on when you get to your destination.

The Last Steps and End Result!
Order breakfast from a nearby restaurant for pick up or delivery, or if you are staying at an Airbnb and feel up to it cook breakfast yourself. If you are staying at an all inclusive hotel with a private plunge pool outside your room, then just order room service! Then place your breakfast on the tray with some flowers or greenery and voilá! Your very own DIY floating breakfast!
