Travel Tips for Visiting West Africa
- Vaccinations: Most countries in West Africa require yellow vaccination (some only require it if you arriving from a yellow fever zone) so be sure to get this vaccination a minimum of 2 weeks prior to traveling. Travel with your vaccination card and be prepared to present it at customs when you land. The cost of this vaccine is approx. 200$ plus an additional doctor’s fee. You only need to take this vaccine once in your lifetime- so if you plan on visiting other countries in Africa you’ll be covered!
- Money: Make sure to change some cash into the local currency because a lot of places will not take a credit card- including gas stations, some restaurants etc. I recommend changing money at the airport and using USD or Euro (large bills can lead to a better exchange rate than smaller bills in some places).
- Getting Around: Traffic in the capital cities can be intense to leave extra time to get to the airport! Uber is not readily available in every city in West Africa. Where it is available (for instance in Accra) drivers can often cancel you or you’ll find yourself waiting a long time. If you don’t have wifi or a SIM card then it can also be a challenge to use the app. You may be better off hailing a regular taxi and negotiating your price. Also, most Ubers operate small, compact vehicles that may not be able to hold large suitcases.
In West Africa, luxury transcends mere extravagance; it intertwines with the region’s vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes. Each of these four havens—Yokan Lodge, Lou Moon, Sundy Praia, and Coco Ocean Resort and Spa—invite you to immerse yourself in luxurious accommodations and amenities surrounding by nature.
